We are a Huddersfield based contemporary music ensemble of composers and performers mixing notation and improvisation, electronics and acoustic instruments. Through collaborations with other local musicians, venues, and organizations we hope to contribute a positive spirit to our community arts scene. By maintaining strong ties to the University of Huddersfield we also seek to advance research into artistic practice and collaboration.

Within Mixed Currents I am collaborating with violinists Linda Jankowska, Dejana Sekulic, Irine Røsnes, and composer/electronics artist Pablo Galaz to problematise virtuosity, collaborative practices, and the violin as object. Stemming from all of our independent CeReNeM doctoral studies, this research project merges old with new, acoustic with electronic and analog with digital technologies experimentally. We are in search of what creative roles are, instruments may be, and performance means within our contemporary, highly mediatized age.

This duo with Maria Sappho focuses on mixed disciplinary practice, intermedia, and expanding audiences with community engagement. Our foundations in theatre, dance, visual arts, improvisation, percussion and piano form this collaborative endeavor.
